Eating Disorders

Dr. Christine Selby is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Consultant (CEDS-C) with a specific specialty in working with athletes with eating disorders. She helps clients uncover who they are without the eating disorder and develop skills to push back against the relentless demands of the eating disorder.

Mental Health Care for Athletes

Dr. Christine Selby is also a sport psychologist with Emeritus status as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC-E). She helps athletes determine how sport and mental health challenges interact in ways that may negatively impact performance. She works collaboratively with athletes to help them determine the best way to manage the demands of sport while maintaining their mental well-being.

The Story of Our Practice

Our practice began in Bangor, Maine in 2007 and has been continuously serving clients ever since. Over the years, we’ve grown into a trusted resource for individuals and families seeking compassionate, evidence-based mental health care.

Selby Psychological Services, PLLC is led by Brian W. Selby, Ph.D., and Christine L. B. Selby, Ph.D., licensed psychologists with more than 20 years of experience treating a wide range of mental health challenges.

Dr. Brian Selby provides Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children, adolescents, and young adults. Dr. Christine Selby offers an eclectic approach that combines person centered, psychodynamic, and skill-based therapies for adults. Together, they are committed to creating a warm, collaborative space where clients can better understand themselves, build resilience, and move toward meaningful change.

Meet the Psychologists

Dr. Brian W. Selby, Ph.D.

Dr. Brian Selby specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children, adolescents, and young adults. With focus on managing anxiety and neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD). He integrates evidence-based techniques to help young individuals build lasting resilience.

Dr. Christine L. B. Selby, Ph.D.

With limited availability, Dr. Christine Selby provides individual psychotherapy for adults with specialties in eating disorders and mental health of athletes. Dr. Selby is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Consultant (CEDS-C) and sport psychologist with emeritus status as a Certified Mental Performance Specialist (CEDS-E). With a person-centered approach, she encourages self-reflection and self-exploration to foster healing. She also works full-time as a Staff Psychologist at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Center for Counseling and Psychological Health.
